Review - PLAIN WISDOM

Plain Wisdom: An Invitation into an Amish Home and the Hearts of Two Women

I was given an advance reading copy of PLAIN WISDOM by Waterbrook Multnomah for the purpose of this review.  I am SO glad I chose this book to read and to share.

Here's what the author Cindy Woodsmall's website has to say about the book she co-authored with Miriam Flaud, an Old Order Amish woman:

With poignant recollections, unexpected insights, and humorous tales, the two women welcome you into their unique friendship. You’ll also gain a rare glimpse into the traditions and ways of the Amish as Miriam recalls special occasions and shares family recipes throughout the book.

Plain Wisdom is a heartwarming celebration of God, womanhood, and the search for beauty that unites us all. So grab your cup and your quilt and settle in for a soul-comforting read with Plain Wisdom.

I think a lot of people are fascinated with the Amish culture as many of the writers, particularly in Christian fiction circles, have had huge success in writing about these people.  I too am enthralled with them, especially because I have friends who are ex-Amish and attend our church.

This book is more than just about the Amish - it is about commonalities Christian woman and mothers share - children, faith, food, traditions, conflicts, hardships, etc.  Each woman shares how she faced particular situations or experienced certain things under several topics.  OH - and there are RECIPES!!  :)

This book is an easy read as it is a collection of short stories or tale-tellings.  It's easy to pick up for a quick moment of inspiration - but so interesting it will be hard to put down!  It goes on sale March 15, 2011.
