My mom thought I needed a sewing machine; she offered to buy me one for my 40th birthday last November. I didn't really get too excited as I really didn't think I needed/wanted one ...
Really, I just would have rather had the money!
I didn't get the sewing machine for my birthday. After Christmas, we went to visit my parents. My mom had bought herself a sewing machine. Anna had gotten a simple Daisy Kingdom kit to make her American Girl doll a night gown, pillow, and stuffed dog. While my mom and I set up the machine and I started in on the nightgown, I got the "sewing bug" - it was actually FUN!
I had to take Home Economics in high school. I wasn't very good at the sewing part, but I did learn how to sew - both by hand and by machine. I had to make a skirt ... mine had a GIANT HOLE in the waist band when I was almost done!! It's a wonder I passed that class. I wasn't a natural.
Well, the other day I was wasting time at Walmart ... and I browsed the sewing/crafts aisles - and the same sewing machine my mom had was on "roll back". The key word for this machine is: SIMPLE.
I called my mom to confirm it was the same machine - and she said she'd buy it for me for Easter (considering the discounted price I could have bought it for myself!).
Miriam (who has a HORRIBLE cold & cough right now) has already checked it out as well.
I think she approves!
So, now I can finally finish up that night gown for Anna's American Girl doll ...
I got the elastic for the neck put in last night.
Today I just have to put on the ruffle - I've already put in the gathering stitch & have the ruffle "ruffled".
While I'm not ready to take on any huge sewing projects any time soon, I am ready to let the hem down in some of my daughter's school uniform skirts! Sew simple.
