Love & War (A Review)

Love and War Devotional for Couples: The Eight-Week Adventure That Will Help You Find the Marriage You Always Dreamed Of

I received this book for review purposes a while back.  Ironically - or perhaps I should say appropriately? - I did not pick up this book again until just recently as I was thinking about the whole Valentine's Day and marriage theme going on around the blogsphere.  So, the last two days I have been perusing this book.  I actually read it straight through instead of as a devotional.

My husband wasn't really keen on doing this with me - not that he doesn't want to work on our marriage, he just not into all the touchy-feely, let's-discuss-deeply-how-we-feel kind of stuff.  I'm ok with that.  He does listen when I read him snippests of books that speak to me and is willing to discuss MY thoughts with me.

The book was full of good reminders of things we can work on in marriage.  I have often heard that what women need most is love - and what men need most is respect.  This book put that in different terms.  It says that women need to feel loved and feel like they won't be abandoned.  Men need affirmation.  I know I have heard the heart cry of several of my married women friends say, "I just want my husband to TAKE CARE OF ME."  And he just wants to know he is adequate.  That was an interesting thought.

Anyway, I would say this book is something you can read together as a couple (which is its purpose); but I also found it helpful to just read it on my own.

I received this book for free from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group for the purpose of this review.
