Remember the quote we can't quite figure out (ok, I can't ... you all have probably moved on with your lives by now): "All that is not music is silence."
WELL, my dear, wise bloggy friend Mrs. D actually put the missing link into my puzzle!! In the comments, she said,
"When I read that the first thing I thought of was that music=harmony and rhythm. This makes me think of disharmony which is what happens when things are not going well in a marriage. Almost like a spouse giving you the silent treatment."
And then it all came back to me: the preacher mentioned something about NOT playing the silent treatment game!! I guess the point was to communicate and work out problems - but not to punish with silence. Something like that anyway.
I do know there are times in marriage when silence is appropriate - when it keeps you from saying the WRONG thing - when it keeps you from saying the first ugly, sarcastic, hateful thing you feel like saying when you're angry ... but overall, the silent treatment is NOT the answer. So, there we have it, friends, don't use the silent treatment.
Thank you too to Melanie for your lead to the quote by George MacDonald.
And Mrs. D, if you ever want a job teaching at a Christian school again, call us - and you're hired. Now, if you could only get Mr. D to move your all's house and chicken coop to Southern Missouri ... we'd find you a nice place for a garden. ;)

I, for one, feel much better. ;-)
Thank you, Conny & Mrs. D.
Now if I could just borrow some of Mrs. D's braincells to wade through a discussion/research project on the character of Wescott & Hort and the various texts underlying the Bible translations....... :-0 Sounds like a potential blog post, eh??
Maybe I'll bake pumpkin bars instead.
