I've already established the fact that I'm a night owl ... my husband is - for lack of better description - an early bird. Even our parenting falls into line with our preferences. I do the "night shift" with the kids - get them ready for school for the next day, make sure they brush their teeth, and I put them to bed. My husband gets the older 2 kids up and ready for school - he makes lunches, puts out breakfast, makes sure they take their vitamins. Of course, they are old enough to do a lot for themselves --- you would think.
Yesterday afternoon, I picked up the kids from school, and my daughter sat up front by me in the car. I was studying her as I drove out of the school property. Her hair, though put up in a rubber band thingy, was somehow extra disheveled. I wanted to blame the wind, and so I asked if she'd played outside a lot that day. And she had - for a short while. Then I asked if she had done her own hair (usually she asks me to put her hair up like she was wearing it because she can't quite do it) ... and she said, "No." So I asked, "Did Dad do it??" She answered, "No." So, I - dreading to know the answer - asked, "Um, who did your hair?" and she said, "Mom, you did! (The night before.) I just went to bed with my hair up so I wouldn't have to re-do it in the morning." How clever.
Of course, my mommy pride immediately kicked in - Did Anna's teacher notice how unkempt my daughter looked today? Did my husband even look at his daughter's hair that morning?! What about her friends - did they notice & were they tempted to make fun of her??! Thankfully, I don't think ANYONE was the wiser. Well, except the few of you who read my blog who now know Anna's little hair secret. Don't tell!! ;)
