Easter Aftermath

We had a nice Easter. Being in church for Easter is always a blessing. Our pastor's sermon - as always - was such an encouragement. Much food for thought. One of his points was that the resurrection gives us a testimony (if we are a Christian). It made me think of my recent post about sacrifice & being willing to "give up" everything for Christ. Our pastor gave up his parents' business to follow his call to preach - and his point was this: when you GIVE UP something, it is proof that you believe in it. When you "give up everything" to God, it is proof that you believe in Him. This picture of DISHES sums up my weekend ... actually, my life since last Thursday. Thursday I got a call from a friend, asking if I could keep her 3 kids overnight & on Friday (Friday was a holiday - a day off school). On Friday, as I was doing DISHES, I was thinking of my husband's family growing up - 6 kids & no dishwasher!! I am so thankful for my dishwasher!

Ironically, after my friend's kids were picked up by her husband after he got off work, I got a call from another friend asking if I could watch her son on Saturday ... and when he got picked up on Saturday evening, I got ANOTHER call from a school parent asking if we could watch her son from Monday until Wednesday!! Crazy, huh??! The funniest thing is I had just seen a friend at Walmart on Thursday & had casually said to her I was thinking of babysitting to earn some extra money! Perhaps this was a test to see if I could truly do it. If all the kids were as easy to keep as the ones we had, I'd do it in a heartbeat. And this summer, I just might.

I don't think I have cooked & baked as much as I did this weekend in a long, long, long time! While running my make-shift day care center, I also was expecting my in-laws on Saturday and my brother-in-law and nephew on Sunday afternoon!!
To help me out, Dan took Miriam & Andrew out on errands on Saturday morning ... giving me what I hoped was 2 hours to prepare for my visitors, take a shower, and clean up the last of the house for my in-laws who were due between 11 a.m. and noon. At 10 a.m., the doorbell rang ... my in-laws had gotten an early start (like 2 hours early!) and were HERE!!!!! Me, in my lovely (not) robe, in the middle of baking a casserole and cake, and their bed not ready. Oh well. I'm also learning to go with the flow & not stress out so much.
We did have a wonderful visit with Dan's parents ... and later with Dan's brother & his son. Since we have church at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., we didn't have our Easter meal until Sunday late afternoon. Afterward, we sat around our dining room table, picking at the jelly beans in the basket and talking ... a perfect ending to our Easter Day.

P.S. Turns out we will not be watching the little boy from Monday until Wednesday ... so the HutchHaus Day Care is closed until further notice.

Sounds like a great weekend even with the early arrival =) But one that might make you hungry for anything someone else is able to cook ;-)
Enjoy your quieter week!
