I haven't been able to blog lately because I think my kids are falling apart! Since Thursday a week ago, my two oldest have taken turns being sick - fever, cough, sore throat, etc ... Anna missed one day of school and a Sunday of church; Andrew missed three days of school and a Sunday of church.
Even the baby has been stuffy nosed, rattly chested, and spitting up mucous. After not sleeping more than two hours at a stretch on Sunday night, being fussy and upset for several hours in the early morning hours, we knew she needed to see the doctor too. I am so thankful for a husband who was willing to hold her, rock her, comfort her for 2 hours early, early Monday morning so I could get just a little sleep, even though he had to go to work. Now all the kids have medicine - and will hopefully, finally start feeling better. We tried for a week and a half to just get better at home - but it wasn't working. Andrew & Anna were taking turns having fevers and not feeling well. Now the only problem we face is that Andrew was given pills as his medication (I didn't think to ask for liquid form) - and he is having trouble swallowing them. :( I don't know how to help him learn to do this because I have had to take pills/medication since I was 4 years old (I took daily thyroid meds as a child). Any tricks anyone can pass along would be helpful! I just have him put the pill on his tongue & drink a lot to try to get it down. I've also tried the crush the pill, put it on a spoon with a lot of sugar & water - but he gagged on that. :(
In any case, I am hopeful the kids are now on the mend!! And we can enjoy the rest of our week - it is SPRING BREAK!!! :)

Oh you poor thing! I too am thankful that I have a husband who used to hold and rock our babies while sick so I could get just a little sleep! He would get up during the night and come in the living room and tell me to go to bed. And he had to go to work the next day! What a blessing to have a husband who doesn't mind helping out some times, when it isn't so fun!
One great piece of advice I got from an Army doc--practice with M&M's!! He had me do that with my kids. You start with the mini m&m's and work your way up to regular size. Not as fun as tasting the chocolate, but it really worked!
Sometimes (like this year) our spring breaks become sick breaks :-( But at least we have time to be down, right?
The m&m's are a good idea. A friend's daughter worked her way up to swallowing Mike&Ike's or some huge candy - in prep for taking her chemo pills, which happily turned out to be smaller than the candy. I need to work on this with my kids too, espec the boys since they can't seem to swallow ANYthing in pill or softgel form. (It must be genetic from me - I was still taking children's chewable asprin in high school for the occasional headaches! :o)
Hope everyone's feeling much better soon!
